Let's Go Pikachu & Let's Go Eevee Announced on Nintendo Switch
Let's Go Pikachu! and Let's Go Eevee! will be released this upcoming November 16, 2018 on the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo confirmed the games release last week after rumours and leaks about the game had cropped up.
The games will revolve around catching the original 151 Pokemon (plus one new mystery Pokemon) in the Kanto region, and have brand new features such as motion controls and multiplayer. Pikachu and Eevee will run alongside you and ride on your shoulders as you explore the Pokemon world in a fresh way.
At a press release last week, Nintendo said that the game was inspired by Pokemon Yellow, where Pikachu ran alongside the player, and fun elements from both the original Blue and Green games and the television show were blended together to make a fresh experience for younger players.
The game will take much from the wildly popular Pokemon Go mobile game, which was the most downloaded app of Summer 2016 and still maintains a very active userbase. A pokeball shaped controller called the "Pokeball Plus" will be swung to lob in-game pokeballs and to "bring one of your Pokemon with you as you explore the real world," the Pokemon International Company said.
Additionally, Pokemon will appear on the map so that players can choose which Pokemon they want to battle, and Pokemon can be transferred from Pokemon Go into Let's Go Pikachu! if the player has a bluetooth connection.
Many of these mechanics are a push by Nintendo to make some Pokemon games more accessible to younger children. Junichi Masuda, the director of Let's Go Pikachu! and Let's Go Eevee! says "it’s really a much simplified experience compared to the traditional series. … At the same time, I think there’s going to be a lot for players who enjoyed the original games.”
But for those who are fans of the format of the core series, never fear. Nintendo has confirmed that a "core game" is in development for the Switch to be released in late 2019.
